Medicine Hat will not be sending any representatives to this year’s Federation of Canadian Municipalities conference in Quebec City.

City council voted unanimously to boycott the conference because of that province’s stance on oil and gas pipelines.

Mayor Ted Clugston says the city won’t be spending taxpayer money in that province.

Clugston says, “It was better to make a stance as an oil and gas producer.  A municipality.  What better municipality to make a stance and not go, and not to spend any of our local taxpayers hard earned money in the Province of Quebec.”

Clugston says council may have made the same decision had the conference been held in Vancouver BC, instead of Quebec City
