A man is facing charges after police believed he had a handgun in the downtown core Wednesday.

While on a routine investigation, an officer noticed a man in a building parking lot and he appeared to be attempting to load a handgun.

The officer drew his weapon and ordered the man several times to drop the gun, but the suspect shoved the gun into his waistband and moved towards the officer.

The suspect tripped and fell, he was arrested as other officers arrived on scene.

The handgun was later determined to be a replica and the man was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and possible drugs.

The man has been charged with possessing a weapon as well as outstanding warrants and other charges.
