No new major capital projects for the city of Medicine Hat.

That’s what Mayor Ted Clugston told the crowd of just over 300 gathered for his annual State of the City address.

Clugston says controlling spending has been a key priority for the current city council.

Clugston says, “We did a lot of construction from 2013 to 2017 with the hopes that would attract the private sector.  I think that is paying off with the commercial development from the private sector.  I’ve said we put the money in, now it’s time from the private sector to put their money in, and I think you’re seeing that a little bit.  But, as this city and municipal council goes, it’s cruise control.”

Clugston said last year was a bit of a commercial boom with stores like Old Navy and others setting up shop in Medicine Hat.
