While recent fundraising efforts will keep HALO in the sky after July 1, Drew Barnes brought the fight to the floor of the legislature.

The Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA told the legislature that HALO needs to receive provincial funding.

He pointed out that local tax dollars support other air ambulance services in the province.

Barnes said, “Donors in our area are rallying around this life saving service.  However, these donors are also taxpayers and taxpayers funds are used to support other critical air ambulance services in other parts of Alberta.”

The MLA added, “It is my hope that an agreement can be reached that we can support HALO going forward. They are a life saving asset in our area, and Mr. Speaker, Alberta families can not afford to lose them.”

He also gave examples of the time saved in having HALO respond to calls in our region.
