Thursday is World Suicide Prevention Day and a vigil is taking place in Medicine Hat.

The Medicine Hat Counselling Collective is hosting a Silent Vigil Lantern Labyrinth in Riverside Veterans Memorial Park.

Organizer Angie Irvine says it’s especially important in the city this year

Irvine says, “We tray to acknowledge International Suicide Prevention Day every year.  But, this year with the tragic losses we’ve had in our community, we thought it was even that much more important to make space for those who really need it and come together as a community.  So families can see we’re all in this together and they’re not in this alone.”

Irvine asks anyone planning to attend to please wear a face mask and observe physical distancing.

The vigil gets underway at 6:00 pm and will be live streamed for those who can’t attend.
