December 16: Medicine Hat Christmas Bird Count

Medicine Hat Christmas Bird Count Wanted: Bird Feeder Watchers Sunday, December 16

If you have a bird feeder in your yard, then you can help with the Medicine Hat Christmas Bird Count on Sunday, December 16th. Every year citizen scientists across North America make this, the longest running wildlife survey in the world, happen. Feeder watchers are an important component of the count because they often observe a few species not found by territory monitors within our area’s count circle.
To participate as a feeder watcher, you must be able to identify birds to species. Anyone interested in counting his or her feeder birds should contact us at the Nature Centre before the count. We can advise them about the proper way to do the count and provide a form to keep track of what they see. Final tallies should be phoned or emailed to the Nature Centre.

For all you parents or grandparents out there, this can be a excellent activity to do with the kids. What a terrific way for children to learn about and appreciate our winter feathered friends.

If you would like to participate in the count or have any nature related questions, please phone the Nature Line at (403) 529-6225.

With its marriage of great pop music, fantastic dance numbers and an engaging multi-generational story, “Mamma Mia!” has been a huge hit ever since it premiered in London in ’99, before appearing as a blockbuster on Broadway. It’s spawned not one, but two major movie releases (the sequel featuring Cher is set to hit theaters in the summer of ’18.) And now we, Medicine Hat Musical Theatre, have the opportunity to bring this acclaimed production to Medicine Hat. “Mamma Mia!” tells the story of a mother, a daughter, three possible dads and an unforgettable trip down the aisle. Bride-to-be Sophie wants nothing more than to have her father at her wedding. But she has no idea which of mom’s three former boyfriends might be the guy. So Sophie invites them all to the festivities, surprising her fiercely independent mom and her loyal friends. The show’s tale of enduring love and friendship features ABBA’s fabulous hit songs, including “Dancing Queen,” “S.O.S.,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Take a Chance on Me” and many more.
